Agile Coach

I’ve been working for over ten years, but I had not been with XD until half a year ago. So when I was asked to write about my life at XD, I was both excited and a bit anxious.

Excited because I felt honored that I was chosen to share how I feel about and look at it. Anxious because as a newcomer, I was afraid that I haven’t known the company well enough to present the real XD.

However, one thing is for sure. Everyone has an instant and direct experience of the company’s unique corporate culture and work environment, including new employees like me.

First of all, here we have real transparency. Anyone can leave work-related information and even personal information in the company’s public space, which is open to all employees. We are allowed to search for information about other project teams, learning about what others are doing on a daily basis. Of course, we can also choose to keep our personal information to ourselves via system settings. Employees have direct access to the company’s updates, strategy, values, etc., which make information easily communicated top-down and relevant to everyone. As channels for communication are effective, many unnecessary steps and processes are avoided. The most direct result is less time and energy is wasted on ineffective conversation, and more is spent on increasing productivity.

Secondly, we value alignment and pragmatism. When selecting members for a team, our highest priority is to create a team that can make things done. Every team member has to have a clear understanding of the team’s vision, including specific direction and goals in the near future. Take the “TapTap” team that I belong to as an example, the team’s roadmap is transparent to all members, and from confluence, everyone can learn about TapTap’s main tasks and objectives for the next two weeks or so, such as what features will go live, and what games will be launched. As information is passed round with utmost efficiency and transparency, the entire team is aligned, untied and pragmatic. Also, there is close collaboration between departments. Each department works as a small gear, and when they slot together, they form a big apparatus, driving the rapid development of the company.

Thirdly, just like the industry we are in, XD is a place full of pleasure. Because our work is closely related to games, we value fun and diversity. No matter how unique and niche your hobbies are, here you can always find someone like-minded. I once entered the company’s pet lovers’ group, and was surprised to find that there were many skink owners. There is no dress code at the office, and many of our young colleagues dress in their own styles. Regardless of our background and hobby, we blend in perfectly and immediately. XD’s management style is also special. Over the past ten years, I have been with a variety of companies, such as state-owned enterprise, large foreign enterprise, some in telecommunication and some in mobile phone. Despite their own characteristics, their management structue are basically the same, as the larger the corporation is, the more traditional its management becomes. However, XD is not one of them. It is more of a flat organization, where management is more direct and employees are more invovled. Such structure suits the gaming industry pretty well.

With a corporate culture and a work environment that is interesting, efficient and unique, XD is an inclusive organization, a close-knit family. If you are resolute, interesting and creative, join us now and let’s have some fun together!
