Art Director

As more Chinese companies are taking proactive measures to go global and expand overseas, game development is faced with new tasks. With new industrial trend and user demand, high efficiency and quality in production is no longer enough, and we as developers are also required to pay attention to innovation in gameplay and re-creation in culture.

For years, I have been searching for companies that are capable of creating great global products/IP, and are dedicated to upholding great corporate culture. In order to find or create the ideal workplace for game development, I have worked at various companies, including Tencent and several other leading players, and have served as the art director at EA/Popcap and Rovio’s headquarters in Finland. By participating in a number of projects, some of which have produced excellent global IPs, I was able to understand how corporate culture shapes game development against different cultural backdrops. After all these experiences, I am deeply impressed by XD’s continuous efforts in refining its corporate culture, which showcases its determination to put R&D at its core.

We at XD enjoy top-notch office environment and employee benefits. Yet what attracts developers the most is its culture and the people we work with.

Open communication, close collaboration and effective decision making, these are the things that we experience on a daily basis.

Open communication

Many companies adopt waterfall management model, while XD believes in openness, honesty and transparency, which are reflected in the company’s daily operation from C suite to staff member. With software like Slack and Confluence, everyone can look into the CEO’s insight on products and corporate culture, check the project producer’s work logs, discuss and brainstorm ideas anytime anywhere. Such transparency creates common understanding and inspires meaningful communications. It is fair to say that XD is on a par with those Scandinavian companies where openness and equality are advocated.

Close collaboration
In some companies, the middle office supports front office, serving project teams as their internal customers. But here at XD, the two parties work as professional partners, working on R&D, identifying key issues and addressing difficulties side by side. Our internal rules guarantee that production-oriented tasks are not handed over to the artistic team, and collaboration is flexible and adaptable. When we put together a design team, we select designers and artists that are complementary in their work experience and strengths, so that core issues can be solved as quickly as possible, leading to a win-win situation.

Effective decision-making
With an open corporate culture, a flat organization structure, and an OKR goal setting system, product development teams at XD are able to give full play to their in-depth understanding of the product and their expertise. All teams display great initiative, act proactively in addressing challenges, reduce rigid routine caused by complicated processes, and keep members aligned and focused on key issues.

XD offers many more tools to help you develop a game and fulfil your dreams. Whereas, as a leader of the creative industry, XD attaches more importance to corporate culture, which can bring out the best of its people. This is why XD has been taking concrete actions to build an open culture and inclusive environment . If you are equipped with professional skills, ready to devote yourself to innovation, and eager to join an outstanding team, XD is the place for you. Here you will find great emphasis of product quality, ongoing pursuit of great ideas, and so many co-workers that are funny, happy and eager to create fun and happiness for others. Welcome!
